Aishah's Tips

As a working mum, time is a luxury I can’t afford. But as much as possible, I would choose healthy treats and food for myself and my family. These little decisions to eat healthy would be beneficial in the long run.

I need to always be on the move. If I don’t exercise, I would feel stressed out. I love running! I run at least twice a week and join races whenever I can. Besides, I do weight exercise too, which helps on improving bone strength and density.

I’m a sweet tooth and I love my sweets! Instead of going for your typical chocolates and candies that are chock-full of unwanted calories, I make my own sweet treats.

Whenever possible, I would try to incorporate oats into our diet. I do make my own granola at home using Quaker rolled oats. And when there is a recipe which requires flour, I would use blended oats as a healthier substitute.

Mums are already busy as they are. My advice is to always prepare early. I would get my ingredients sorted during the weekends if I know well ahead of time that I will be cooking during the week. I also look for easy recipes such as roast chicken or a simple salad.

My kids have started eating greens when they were little. It’s important to expose them early so they are more open to eating their veggies and not grow up to become fussy eaters. Even with oats, I start incorporating Quaker oats into their diet.

Quaker oats can keep us full longer while maintaining our energy levels throughout the day. This is especially important particularly when we fast during the month of Ramadan.

The whole family needs to be on-board the idea of eating healthy first. Only then will your kids be convinced to eat healthy. I would also monitor their snacking habits so they don’t indulge in too much junk food.
